Greg Winter

Why did you choose to work for Meiko Kids e?

Professional growth is probably one of the most important things to me. I think that Meiko Kids e has a great system in place to help employees progress through their careers. I have personally received a lot of support in improving my teaching and class management skills.
I have also learned skills and techniques to help in managing staff here.

What do you find to be rewarding
about working at Meiko Kids e?

While there are sets of rules and expectations—as with any company—it has been great and very rewarding to have some influence and freedom to create a school atmosphere and run lessons in a way that I feel best supports the children we support in our area.
The energy that I receive from the kids is very rewarding to me. They help me to take a look at myself and how I act on a daily basis and make me think about how my actions might influence them. My actions both inside and outside of the lesson have the potential to affect the way the children might act here as well as when they leave. So it has definitely made me more away of who I am as a person.

Describe something you found challenging about
working at Meiko Kids e and how you overcame it.

Starting the school was probably the most challenging for me so far. Everything was new and we weren’t 100% sure of what we wanted to do as a department but, everybody worked very hard and little by little everything started to come together.
It was also challenging working with new children and staff. It took time for everyone to get adjusted and learn how things operate. However, with the support of the Meiko Kids e headquarters team, we were able to get our staff trained and able to better manage the children. This made the transition for everybody much easier.

What do you endeavor to do/keep in mind
when you teach lessons to the children?

We’re very open with the parents and the children as well as the parents’ goals and expectations for the children. So we try our best to keep that in mind in order to cater to each student’s individual needs by giving the opportunities necessary to meet their goals. I think it’s very difficult to learn a new language, especially in a language immersion setting. This is why I try to make it a fun and light-hearted environment where the students laugh a lot. Through that laughter, I want them to be more engaged in proactive in their language learning. At the end of the day, I hope that they go home with a positive attitude towards the language so that in the future they will always remember English being fun and have the motivation to continue.
